The National Executives of St. John’s Grammar Old Students Association (JOSA) have congratulated the newly elected president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku.

The association in a statement issued on Tuesday expressed excitement on the victory of Mr Okraku and urged him to stay resilient for the task ahead.

“Football is the passion of the nation and we are gratified that its resumption after a long break is starting with you. We believe in your competence, transparency, and honesty; key ingredients needed for this high office which was instilled in you during your time at our alma mater,” the Association indicated.

Mr Okraku was elected the new GFA President after his closest rival George Afriyie conceded defeat during the third round of voting on Friday, October 25, during the Elective Congress held at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.

In the first round, Kurt Okraku received 44 votes in the first round, George Afriyie 40, Nana Yaw Amponsah 27 and Fred Pappoe had six.

The other two candidates Amanda Clinton and George Ankomah Mensah had no vote.

The second-round contest saw three candidates, Kurt Okraku, George Afriyie, and Nana Yaw Amponsah as Fred Pappoe withdrew and Amanda Clinton and George Ankomah were knocked out because of their least votes in the first round.

Kurt Okraku won the second round with 59 votes, 16 more than George Afriyie.

Nana Yaw Amponsah finished with the least votes as he earned 16.

Kurt Okraku received 93 votes and was declared as the new GFA President.

The St. John’s Grammar Old Students Association in the statement also advised the 24th President in GFA’s 62-year history, to be cautious and strive to make a positive impact as he assumes his new role in Ghana’s football.

“We know you will make our nation proud and also make JOSA proud. JOSA Kurt, please put the smiles back on the faces of the football fraternity during your tenure of office” it stated.
