The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed dismay in a press statement it released recently concerning reports it received from designated field officials monitoring the ongoing limited registration. They have considered the move by Electoral Commission (EC) as “serious infractions of rules”.

The limited registration which began on Sunday 16/09/18 was carried out in selected districts within the four regions, affected by the impending referendum to determine the fate of the proposed new six regions.

The statement which was signed by the general secretary of the opposition NDC indicated that the limited registration was characterized by “organizational lapses which are threatening to compromise the quality of the exercise”. It noted that the EC was supposed to give out an “Activity Report” which would be verified by their party agents to “ensure that the EC’s registration officers do not enter any additional names outside working hours”. “Unfortunately, this was not done before the beginning of the registration nor the close of the exercise”; the statement read.
It also stated that some eligible voters have been denied exercising their franchise because some areas were experiencing the periodical rains which had resulted in flooding.

The statement at its latter portion demanded that special arrangements should be put in place to allow all potential voters participate and also called for the issuance of the daily activity report from EC officials to their agents “at the various registration centers to avoid any further controversies at the centers”.

Speaking on the matter was the deputy national youth organizer hopeful for the opposition party, Mr. Justice Yeboah. He confirmed to Destiny News that the move by Electoral Commission was a deliberate action to doctor the election results. He reiterated that the EC had consciously planned that since it was a breach in the ECs manual.
